I tried making fan films, the journey started in 2005 and I had finished High School in November the year before and I was trying to figure out what the next step in life was going to be.
Enterprise got cancelled and a bunch of us ended up at Trekunited, it was a hive of creative activity especially the Australian branch of Trekunited and the place called Aussie Cubbyhouse.
Kirok of L’Stok was a major player in the fan film world, Matt Miller started Trekzone, Pauline made Enterprise S5 and I am here.
The ‘Tales from the 7th Fleet’ people came in and showed us their fan films and we learned quite a bit about blue screens and green screens and how they got video of the captain in the background to look right etc.

TFTSF got me curious but as I didn’t have the money for live action (it was before crowdfunding), I tried to make my own fan films on Macromedia Flash, I called the series of fan films Endeavour and it wasn’t the world’s greatest, I had a friend from High School do bits and pieces to save it from being a total embarrassment.

Being a pretty reclusive and low on technology fella, there wasn’t anybody to do voicework, so it was back to pre-1927 film techniques to tell the stories with sound effects added.
Later on, I would try to make a live action fan film and my family turned the garage into a bridge set, and everything was looking fantastic, we did tests, we were having fun at home and then it rained, and it rained some more and soon our bridge set was starting to bow and soon we had to give up and never got around to trying again.

Time to time I look at the old files and think about fixing one of the films, even writing about it here has the mind wondering but I think programs have improved rapidly since 2005 so maybe there is another way to go and have some fun.
Plenty of ways to do fan films these days. As I tell everyone, just sit down and make it happen. There’s an article on-line about Paragon’s Paragon and how they did it. It inspired me enough to give it a try in 2010, and I’ve been at it ever since!
