It has been a quiet week in the fan film world which is good because sometimes you need a week or two of nothing major happening.
Achievement Boasting and Comparing
Achievement Boasting and Comparing, there’s a big difference between saying that you’ve had a good year and you’re happy with that and saying that you’ve had a good year compared to so and so’s year and then you mock them and try belittling them.
Comparing achievements is for ego inflating purposes, the comparer wants to show off just how good they are and try to humiliate the person they are comparing themselves to.
Perhaps they forget that people do like the underdog more than a person with a swollen ego and a swollen head.
Chances are that there is somebody out there who has done better than the comparer and they aren’t going to say a thing about it because they like the size of their head just the size it is.
You will always do better than somebody else in life, but there will always be somebody out there who is doing better in life than you, stay humble and when somebody tries to goad you into telling what you been up to compared to them, don’t take the bait.
Dickie Knee’s
Dickie Knee was a puppet character on the show Hey Hey It’s Saturday, the character’s role was to stick his head up in front of the host’s desk and say a wisecrack to the host and/or guest and get lost before copping a whack.
On social media, you get at least two sorts of Dickie Knee’s, you get the ones who pop up on a page or a group and saying one thing and then either disappear or they reappear to just deliver more wisecracks, but they’ll either never answer questions (sounds like a Sovereign Citizen doesn’t it?) given to them or if they do answer, they won’t elaborate on their stance because they will answer the question with a question.
The second one is perhaps the saddest one, the leave an emoji Dickie Knee, all they do is go around to pages and groups and just leave a laugh emoji on posts, what a waste of time and it also has the possibility of backfiring because people may take a look at what you’re laughing at.
Blocking them may be the best option though they’ll probably go on about you in whatever group they came from, you could let them stay and just go around them, leave them talking to themselves in a topic.
It is like the old High School act when you’re talking in a group, and everybody decides to ignore one person when they are speaking and naturally the person being ignored gets more and more frustrated and then leaves.
2024 Trekzone Fan Film Awards
My musing about the awards this week is that I am pleased to get the process started on getting information from fan films and putting them into categories.
Taking it very slowly this year so we try not to upset somebody this year, the last thing we need is another letter, because after two bumpy rides, our third awards should go like clockwork.
One great thing is that fan films put all their credits in the video description so I can just take all the bits I need through copy and paste without going through the credits, ensures we get the names all correct too.
What Characters Should Have Done Or Thought
I’ve always found it interesting that people can get in long discussions on what a character should have done in various situations.
Fans expand a film or television script and expand a character’s world pretty much like the movie Pleasantville where it started as a show with basics and then the two kids that got sucked into the show slowly introduced new things.
I don’t know what Kirk was thinking when the Reliant was closing in and why he didn’t raise the shields earlier, only the scriptwriter would know but the movie in the end was great.
Fan Studio Donations
Neutral Zone Studios are having another ‘Open House’, this time on February 17 and 18 and they say there is no fee, but they are asking for a $20 donation per person though it is not mandatory which sounds like a whole bunch of contradictions.
It is not nice putting the fans under pressure to contribute, a fan film is a hobby, and a fan film studio is a giant risk in this day and age and if it isn’t at your home or you aren’t rich enough then you are going to have to continuously go to fandom and hope the fans will never get sick of it.
Conclusion
There was a lot to say this edition which was surprising as the day started with hardly anything thought about, but hot and humid conditions helped the brain get thinking and here we are, stay tuned for the next edition of Chuck’s Musings on MTM.
