Sorry for the lateness in this edition of Chuck’s Musings, have been feeling drained in recent times but I feel good today so here I am.

The Power of Axanar’s Haters

How much power does Axanar’s haters have in the fate of Axanar? None.

A hater did not make people decline roles in Axanar, did not stop people donating again and again to Axanar, did not halt production on Axanar for a single day.

Haters did not work with CBS or Paramount as claimed by Axanar in recent court filings, every action that Axanar was busted for was done by Axanar.

It should be said that people don’t hate Axanar, they are not fans of the guy at the head of the table, a good number of them have personal reasons like being sued in the wrong state as part of ‘legal tactics’.

Axanar was warned repeatedly by CBS etc. about settlement breaches and Axanar’s response was to dismiss it and that it would be cured, there was even one recording where Alec Peters was walking around the outside of the former Ares Studios building and he was talking about it with a big grin on his face, not surprising that the video has long disappeared.

It was all self-inflicted and it will probably be spun into a story that big bad CBS and Paramount is trying to squish Axanar on the cusp of being released when in reality if Axanar stayed true to the settlement agreement, the eye and the mountain wouldn’t have cared.

Alec Peters potentially paying the $292,000 to the IP holders of Star Trek won’t stop Axanar, it will get released and they’ll try running to the end of the rainbow where the fan film pot of gold is, the most revered or most watched fan film of all time and no launchpad to bigger and better things.

Good News, Bad News or Both?

It is an interesting topic, should fan film blogs report on the good news, only the bad news or both good and bad news.

Apparently places like MTM and Trekzone are bad because we like to mention the good and the bad news compared to others preferring good news only.

People have a right to know the bad news as well as the good news, people deserve the opportunity to know as much as they can to get make informed decisions on fan films.

99% of fan films don’t have bad news, the only bad news is when an actor or actress leaves, production or release is delayed or in Axanar’s case they’ve been sued, they have said something nasty about people or something doesn’t make sense in what we’ve been told.

Will the Eye and the Mountain go after anybody else?

Now that CBS and Paramount have had their arbitration with Axanar concluded, will they be going after anybody else?

It is possible, the ‘walk throughs’ that Neutral Zone Studios have may get the annoyance of James Cawley who has the right to ask CBS and Paramount to put a stop to it because he has the set tour license, and it could be seen that the NZS people are taking away his business and getting $20 donations to boot which is a fancy way of saying price of admission but covering themselves by making it voluntary.

Fan Films and studios shouldn’t have a problem unless they go through social media boasting about professionals and using words like independent or if somebody with a lot of time on their hands nitpicks through the many fan films and find all the guideline breakers for people to take action on.

Conclusion

These are interesting times but if the Axanar timeline is correct, there’s only a few months to go until the fan film rides into the sunset.

I think good and bad news is the way to go, I know people think fan films should be all peace and love, but people deserve to know who they’re giving money and support to and know if things are going well or not.

Who knows what the Eye and the Mountain will do in the future, all I can say is follow the guidelines the best you can and don’t do anything monumentally stupid that will get the attention of the eye and the mountain.
