While things are pretty quiet on the fan film front, it is a good time to talk about the 2024 Trekzone Fan Film Awards.
The cut off for the awards is April 10, that allows one month for me to go down the list of eligible fan films and make four nominations and then have two months to come up with the winners, get Matt to order the major awards and have them sent off.
So far, we have 13 fan films under 10 minutes in length and ten fan films over 10 minutes in length, so the major awards are good to go for this year.
There may be a few less awards this year, it all depends on numbers, but we shall see how the things go and there’s always the possibility of thinking up new awards, we shall see.
But one of our new awards will be ‘Most Popular Fan Film’, this is determined simply by looking at all the eligible fan films and seeing which fan film was watched the most and that’s it.
If there was a way to make a fan vote, we would look at doing that too, some thinking may be required on how to make it possible as WordPress has changed its poll making options by putting it on another level.
The selection period will be the hardest part of the awards, there is a lot to consider, there is always the urge to balance things out between genders and give fan films an even spread of awards but it cannot be done, it is impossible to come up with the perfect fan film awards or any awards really, all you can do is do your best and have a good time.
After a bumpy two years, we are pretty confident that there will be no problems encountered, if problems are encountered then we just tune them out and carry on with business.
That’s it for this update, we’ll be back in April with a new update for you on how things are going.
