It is amazing that almost a month has passed since we’ve given you an update on the awards.

We would post the update tomorrow to make it exactly a month, but the Australian Stock Car season starts tomorrow and that will have our attention and so here we are today.

As you know the yearly timespan for fan films to be considered passed by on April 10, all the fan films that we have on our lists will be looked at for all the finer details like directors and other occupations and put into the categories.

Then we whittle down the lists down to four nominations plus alternates in case of any declines, progress is good at the moment we are about 25% of the way through picking the four for each category and I am finding that choosing is not easy so things will be a little slower paced especially when figuring out who has the Best Story, but we will be done by May 10 for Matt to give the good news to people.

This year’s preparation has so far been much more joyful than last year, last year was pretty depressing around this stage and there wasn’t much enthusiasm to get the job done but we’ve encountered no problems so far and look forward to it staying that way.

For those interested in knowing, yes, the three main awards will come with an award, Tim Tams and Vegemite this year with the latter likely to be served up raw to unknowing guests of the fan film winners, personally I like Vegemite to be served on bread by first spreading Butter or Margarine and then adding the Vegemite to create a 50/50 mix.

There are no fees for the awards, we choose you to be considered, nominated and picked so it would be really weird to choose a fan film and ask the people who worked on it to pay for the privilege of being considered, nominated or picked plus as you know our philosophy that some people don’t like is, if fan films cannot make money, then we cannot ask you for money and we don’t accept donations from fan films.

I’ve given Matt some early ideas about the presentation aspect of the awards, there are so many ideas and I got to fit them within the airtime and Matt’s availability to work on visual aspects especially during this Australian Football League season and other events that require his media skills.

That’s it for this month, we’ll be much further along in the awards and then everything goes to the visual side of things and before you know it, July 10 will be here.

Until next time, be good to each other.
