A short while ago, MTM wondered if a fan film will crack the million-view mark ever again.

The Star Trek world has changed since the Fan Film Guidelines were introduced and they probably aren’t even the cause of the downturn, the reality is that at the peak of fan films, there was new no Star Trek on TV so if you wanted your fix, you watched a fan film.

Now people got Discovery, Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks and Prodigy to choose from plus streaming services offer the series that came before them, so perhaps they don’t feel the need a big need to watch a fan film to get their Star Trek fix.

Star Trek: First Frontier made over a million views since it was launched in 2020, it currently has five million views and they only have 24,100 subscribers, they could pass Prelude to Axanar for second place on the all-time list before the year is over.

Axanar is slated to be released this year, they have 110,000 subscribers which is quite large compared to every fan film maker out there, so they are a good chance of making it, though the Axanar “spin off” Interlude was hosted on the Axanar channel and has received 257,000 views.

It is impossible to know whether it will make it to a million or not, 1.51 million views are needed to make the Top 10 and 17 million views are needed as of March 11, 2024, to be the most watched of all time.

It can all come down to the right title, the right tag, the right controversy, the right purchases, anything, we live in strange times, anything can happen, and it usually does.

Until next time, be good to each other.
