Star Trek fans attention was grabbed on June 20, 2024, when the video ‘The Star Trek: Captain Sulu Series We Never Got — Full Pilot!’ was posted on YouTube and it quickly gained 200,000 views.

The video was posted by Marc Scott Zicree (called Mr. Sci-Fi) who co-wrote and directed the episode and was also an executive producer.

This 2007 ‘pilot’ was the fourth Star Trek New Voyages/Phase II fan film (episode) ‘World Enough and Time’, it has been around the New Voyages/Phase II channel since 2012 and has received 1.57 million views, it is the fourth one made as ‘Come What May’ was given 4×00.

There’s no mention of it being a Captain Sulu pilot in anything related to New Voyages/Phase II.

It appears that ‘World Enough and Time’ is a fan film whose purpose is all in the eye of the beholder, for most it is a New Voyages/Phase II fan film but for Marc Scott Zicree it is a Captain Sulu pilot.

Marc says in the June 20, 2024, video that World Enough and Time was ‘essentially in my mind functioned as a pilot for the Captain Sulu Star Trek series that we never got‘.

After World Enough and Time came a series bible complete with its own plan for a pilot episode.

It’s not the first time the Sulu angle has popped up as the video ‘WHY DIDN”T WE GET THIS?! Unreleased Sulu Star Trek Series! Sci-Fi News and Updates’ was released in 2017.

There seems to be a bit of disagreement about this fan film particularly with what happened behind the camera in regard to who directed what making it one of the dramatic fan films ever made.

Regardless of the differences in vision and the disagreement on who had done what, ‘World Enough and Time’ is considered to be one of the greatest fan films ever made.
