I like Star Trek: The Motion Picture, probably one of the few who do, people think that it is such a slow movie, last night I wasn’t feeling too good, so I put on the movie while parked on the couch.
I first saw it as a kid, I was at a friend’s house, and it was the midday movie, I watched bits and pieces of it and was interested in the movie.
A few years later it was on DVD, and I got to watch it complete for the first time, I didn’t find anything wrong with it aside from the strange uniforms which weren’t the greatest of ideas.
There are a lot of reaction shots, and you got to try put yourself in the position of the crew, seeing V’ger’s massive cloud, the massive power readings, getting to see V’ger itself, the appearances of the probes, and finally Voyager VI.
The soundtrack adds something special to the movie, especially to those reaction shots and the shots of the Enterprise going through the cloud and V’ger, setting the scene perfectly.
I liked when Kirk, Spock and McCoy were leaving V’ger that they would pause to have a look back at what was going on despite the danger, it had to be a bit of a walk to get back to the Enterprise thankfully it is only a movie, and such things can be disregarded.
What I want to know is where in the universe did V’ger come from? Will the machines that built V’ger encounter Starfleet again? Are they really Borg?
Perhaps tonight is a good night for Wrath of Khan or a game of AFL 23.
