CBS and Paramount have responded to the premiere of the Axanar fan film Daedalus, they knocked down the main premiere video within a week of it being online on Axanar’s channel.

The video does still exist, here (now made private), here and here which is not unusual as that is what happened when The Icarus Manoeuvre was around on Axanar’s channel, it was knocked down, but Axanar put it back up here and here.

Everybody knew that this would happen, the deal for Axanar and its creator was simple, make Axanar and nothing else and that meant not making Interlude, not making The Icarus Manoeuvre and not making Daedalus, calling them part of the ‘Axanar Universe’ offers no shielding from the settlement agreement.

It is obvious that Team Axanar doesn’t care about the terms of the settlement, they’ve got an opinion on it and CBS Studios Inc. and Paramount Pictures Corporation have theirs and so far, legally, the court system agrees with the latter.

CBS and Paramount own Star Trek, it is their intellectual property, and they are nice enough to let us play on its turf but if somebody disrespects that turf, CBS Studios Inc. and Paramount Pictures Corporation have got every right in the world to boot them off, Axanar could have been booted off but they got given a nice deal and Axanar has been giving CBS and Paramount the bird continuously ever since.

It will be interesting to see if Axanar wheels out Daedalus again in the near future and if CBS and Paramount respond to it, a knock down will get some attention but perhaps it will be decided that Daedalus will live out its days on a video platform largely unseen while fans wait to Axanar to come and we finally get to see if it is the ‘Real Star Trek’ that people claim it to be.
