Stage 9 was a fan-made computer game where you could go take a walk through the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D by visiting all the fan famous locations.

This game can be best considered as a much larger version of ‘Captain’s Chair’ which focused on the bridge of five starships and a Klingon ship if the old memory is correct, it had some interaction opportunities in it.

Unfortunately, Stage 9 got pulled at version V0.0.10 as the rights holders to Star Trek tightened the reins after some fan film creators were starting to go large especially on the money raising and professional using front.

Gamers started their journey in the transporter room having just been beamed in by Miles O’Brien, from there it was to the turbolift and the start of your journey.

From there, the choice was yours, you could go all the way to the Main Bridge, you could sit in the big chair or if you wanted to, or go and take the Enterprise for a spin, you could take over Worf’s position and fire a torpedo.

You could go into the Ready Room and go visit Captain Picard; you can pick up the model of the USS Stargazer or Picard’s cup of Earl Grey, hot.

If the Main Bridge wasn’t enough, you could go visit the Battle Bridge and you could perform a saucer separation and watch the whole process take place.

You could go down to the brig and lower the forcefield if you wished to do so, don’t worry the occupant is not dangerous.

You could go visit Ten Forward and use the replicator which would give you a drink.

Main Shuttlebay gave you plenty of choice, you could use the tractor beam, open the doors, lower the forcefield and watch all the containers go out of the ship.

Main Engineering was also available to users to go take a look around, the amount of work that went into this was outstanding.

There was plenty more of the ship that you could visit as each deck option in the turbolift offered plenty of choice and the ship was great for version 0.0.10, there’s no doubt future versions would have prevented players from sticking out the ship in certain places.

Out of all the calls for CBS and Paramount to work with the people who worked on fan-made creations, this one was the one, big, missed opportunity that was a sure bet for success, Stage 9 would have sold quite well on PC/Mac/Linux or console especially with all the possibilities it could have had like cast participation, even one or two from ST:TNG would have been big.

Unfortunately, it never happened and this is all we got.
