Happiness, that is one of the things that the Trekzone Fan Film Awards has brought to people and it is the best part of the awards ceremony and the aftermath, other things the awards bring include an introduction to Tim Tams (or re-introduction) and seeing people taking a chance on Vegemite.
When you got the right music, it enhances the film and Nicholas had the right music and it really was in step with Resistance and so it was a deserved win.
Resistance was a great fan film and was up against great competition, one win may seem poultry, but it did deserve its win and the nominations.
Potemkin Pictures deserved going back-to-back because they by my count made more fan films than any of the nominated fan production houses in the eligible period and they had a variety of fan films in that total, they have proven that if you got the right people, the right amount of space and a little bit of money, you can and will make good fan films all year long.
I was a little nervous coming into the awards because Potemkin Pictures had a lot of nominations spread among their fan films and we gave them two nods out of a dozen so there was the worry that they’d hate us for that, but it doesn’t seem to the case.
FSFilm deserved their award for Best Story, it was a unique story and just when you think one party was the victor of the story, the tables were turned, the loser became the winner, add a dash of humour and that was impressive.
It is easy to get tunnel vision and just think of English only fan films, we were reminded to remember the non-English ones this year and we certainly remembered them, subtitles take away any disadvantage languages other than English may have so it all comes down to what the fan film offers to a viewer.
Euderion – Infinity won three awards and perhaps to some they were the surprise of the awards, but they deserved all three of their awards.
The gag reel was amusing, the ship was beautiful inside and out and Tom Erdmann deserved his award as Best Supporting Actor because he played his role well and strengthened the role of Commander Thomas Harriman who is played by Thomas Raube.
Euderion – Infinity-‘s celebrations will probably be going on for a while as Matt carves up the awards into 19 short videos, so they get to celebrate all three times.
David Ellis received his award and as you will see in the post above, it has taken up a position next to two other nice awards, a really neat trio.
Potemkin Pictures received their award, and you can watch the unboxing of the package containing the award here, it is like watching Christmas, watching and hoping that what is in the package is to their liking and it was, those awards definitely need to be ordered for the 2024 awards.
Private Messages
Matt received a stack of messages from people after awards were conducted and it was good to see that he had received them from people, all of them were gratefully received.

We were just delighted to be nominated! All too often because of our lack of fundraising, we’re ignored by many fans until they start actually watching our films. First, once they look past the constraints we have, they see the love, the hard work, and yes, the fun we’re obviously having. Second, they realize that “hey, these guys are making good if not great Star Trek!” And then they reach out to us, wanting to be a part of our productions, and wanting to know when our next film will be released.
Hopefully our friends, family and fans will keep watching! And that’s why we’re here. To have fun, to make Star Trek, and to entertain our fellow fans!

Matt wasn’t worried but I (Chuck) was just worried that after all we went through, somebody might get a little upset if a fan film got so many nominations for so little success and think that we’re pulling a prank on them by getting them excited and then letting them down etc..
I think the constraints make Potemkin Pictures a genuine success, money from fans can make even the humblest of people grow a big ego and we’ve seen a lot of ego in the fan film world but there is no ego in PP and that is a wonderful thing.
Some productions always need cash trying to be the next big hitter in fan films, but PP doesn’t put pressure on fans to pay for anything and gets the wallet out to do things themselves if help is unavailable.
Fan Films are always meant to be homages not businesses, fun between friends in homes, garages, barns, sheds and maybe old shops across the world and although we do see that professionals are creeping back into fan films, it is staying fairly amateur/hobbyist.
A friend once said to me that as long as one person in the world likes what you’re doing, you’re a success.
It is safe to say Potemkin Pictures is a success and will be long after the last fan film is made.

It really did go well; it was very satisfying and I’m still feeling pretty giddy about it.
2024 is unknown right now, MTM will be business as usual and I will be preparing lists just like I did in 2022 and this year so if there is a show, the material will be there for Matt to do all the visual stuff and put his face on the screen etc.
If there is no show, then it will be a simple thing of just publishing a list of our selections kind of like All-Madden before the Madden video games.
A trial may be conducted at the end of the year to come up with category winners based on 2023 only films to see how it looks.
