Years ago, when Axanar got cut down to size by CBS and Paramount there was a huge outcry, people demanding others to boycott CBS and Paramount and all the rest, by the time the case was settled the Star Trek landscape was beginning to change into what it is today, and you’d be hard pressed to find somebody who did boycott Star Trek made by CBS and Paramount.

A few days ago, when The Icarus Manoeuvre got taken down by CBS and Paramount as it was obviously a move to extend the Axanar story, there was almost total silence from those closest to the production.

There were no posts announcing it, just a notice on the website, nothing on Axanar’s site, FB page, YouTube, nothing on Fan Film Factor, it just quietly sank into the depths perhaps never to resurface.

Times have changed, Discovery, Lower Decks, Prodigy, Picard and Strange New Worlds came along and satisfied most people’s thirsts for Star Trek, no need for big spending fan films pulling in anybody who walked on to a Star Trek set.

There are now a mix of fan film makers in the less lucrative hobby, there are some who like to make them in their own time with friends and use their own resources, some like a little bit of financial help, some want you to pay for their film experience and help them reach some kind of acting and production life outside of Star Trek, all probably say they do it for the ‘love of Star Trek’ though for some, that love means you have to be always positive and never question a thing.

Axanar people, take the loss of The Icarus Manoeuvre, don’t even think about releasing the two planned story filling shorts, just put Axanar together and release it and end the journey that was longer than it needed to be.

CBS and Paramount didn’t hold up Axanar, Haters didn’t hold up Axanar, Robert Meyer Burnett and Paul Jenkins didn’t hold up Axanar, the desire to make Axanar into something that was well beyond a fan film has held up Axanar, more money, more bang, more experienced actors, more publicity, more notoriety and while some people will watch Axanar over and over and wish CBS and Paramount give Alec Peters and friends jobs on Star Trek, it will never happen.

Until next time, be good to each other.
