Welcome to The 2026 Trekzone Fan Film Awards, this is the fifth year of the awards that Trekzone and MTM have put together and it is also the birthday of Trekzone.
This year’s awards are done a little differently as we had to put away the video show as life’s demands have left too little time to pull off a suitable production for such an important day for fan films.
We have 11 awards for you in this awards show, we list the nominees and then announce the winner and tell you why they were selected, we will also go in to the other nominees as there was some mighty fine efforts and we had to do a lot of thinking to determine winners and those who fell short played a major part in the long thinking.
Best Short Fan Film is for fan films that ran under 20 minutes in length and Best Fan Film is for fan films that ran over 20 minutes in length.
Nominees in each picture are in order from top left to top right followed by bottom left and bottom right.
Best Actor
The nominees for Best Actor are

Christopher Lee Clarkas as Romulan Deep Space Scout in ‘The Plain Sight‘
Dennis StrauB as Captain Jason McClane in Erstkontakt
Frank V. Saenger Barth as Captain Garth of Izar in Übergänge
Matthew Lee Blackburn as Captain in Monstrosity
The award for Best Actor goes to: Christopher Lee Clark as Romulan Deep Space Scout in ‘The Plain Sight’.
Christopher’s performance was enthralling as he played the typical scheming Romulan so well, we were really sold on the way he talked, the expressions as he tried to con the crew of the Caliborn to achieve his objectives
Dennis StrauB has been a great captain of the Loreley and his performance in Erstkontakt was no exception,
Frank V. Saenger Barth really played Captain Garth of Izar really well over the course of Starfleet Legends and his performance in Übergänge as Captain Garth of Izar descends into insanity was very well done, it was very believable that he had really gone insane.
Matthew Lee Blackburn’s performance as Captain was really interesting to watch, we couldn’t help but be fascinated by his approach to the situation on the planet, the steady withdrawal of the landing party, the snack eating as the situation unfolded, made it very hard to decide on the award winner.
Best Actress
The nominees for Best Actress are

Antje Simon as Captain Charlotte May in Übergänge
Chelsey L. Boston as Captain Oden Madigan in ‘The Signal‘
Hilda Hellacious as Security Chief Azaniin ‘The Plain Sight’
Miriam Hersina as Lt. Anna Muller in Erstkontakt
The award for Best Actress goes to Hilda Hellacious as Security Chief Azaniin in ‘The Plain Sight’.
Hilda played her role to perfection, her efforts to crack the facade of the innocent sounding Romulan made interesting viewing and in the end her character succeeded in finding out what the Romulan was doing on the Caliborn.
Antje Simon plays her role as Captain Charlotte May well in Übergänge, the step up to Captain meant that the character had more responsibility not only in the fictional role but also personally as Antje is now front and centre of the production instead of playing a side role.
Chelsey L. Boston put in a solid performance as Captain Oden Madigan in ‘The Signal’, the performance in ‘The Signal’ has maintained a standard that has been seen in fan films by the Starship Webster Creative Group.
Miriam Hersina put in a solid performance as Lt. Anna Muller, ‘number one’ of the Loreley in ‘Erstkontakt’, her performance was in particular the first half of the fan film a major piece of the story.
Best Music
The nominees for Best Music are

Jed T.E Rhodes for ‘The Last Charge of the Thunderchild‘
Michael Donner for ‘Erstkontakt’
Matthew Lee Blackburn for ‘Monstrosity’
Adam Mullen and Envatoo Elements for ‘Farragut 2024‘
The award for Best Music goes to Jed T. E. Rhodes for ‘The Last Charge of the Thunderchild’, the music used in the fan film perfectly matched the mood and action of the fan film, this category is often the hardest of categories as the quality of work is high.
Best Fan Film
The nominees for Best Fan Film are

Farragut 2024
Erstkontakt
Übergänge
Defiant Chapter 8
The award for Best Fan Film goes to Erstkontakt.
This was a tough category; we had two very slick productions in Erstkontakt and Farragut 2024 and Übergänge had a good story that sets up a great future and Defiant Chapter 8 laid the solid foundations for future chapters.
Erstkontakt had more to offer than the other fan films, it has a cinematic quality about it and like a good fan film, there are multiple story angles that are explored and are resolved.
Best Short Fan Film
The Nominees for Best Short Fan Film are

The Last Charge of the Thunderchild
The Plain Sight
The Cassandra Effect
Monstrosity
The award for Best Short Fan Film goes to ‘The Plain Sight’, this fan film was enthralling to watch, waiting to see what was going to happen, who was the Romulan under guard? what was the anomaly behind the Caliborn?
‘The Last Charge of the Thunderchild’, the use of the Iconians was great thinking and the documentary style is great when done right, Star Trek fans crave for these types of fan films, documentaries about an action that was shows the best and worst moments in Starfleet history.
‘The Cassandra Effect’ was a very nicely put together fan film with excellent sound quality, a solid story and great visual effects, it will be interesting to see what the creators come up with in the future.
Monstrosity, the mission seems easy enough, the capture of a creature but this creature does not want to go quietly, and a landing party sent to capture it can only be beamed up one at a time, will everybody make it home? check it out.
Best Story
The nominees for Best Story are

The Last Charge of the Thunderchild
The Plain Sight
Erstkontakt
Monstrosity
The award for Best Story goes to ‘The Last Charge of the Thunderchild’, this one was a story of sacrifice, the crew of the Thunderchild fighting the Iconians to give Starfleet enough time to evacuate a Starbase, the story was told through the memories of multiple Starfleet officers.
The Plain Sight, a Romulan is recovered from an escape pod by the USS Caliborn, he makes some claims that the security chief is sceptical about meanwhile an anomaly is behind the ship, who springs the trap on whom?
Erstkontakt sees the USS Loreley sending an away team to miners, the miners have a visitor and then are visited by a bigger visitor who strangely does not defend itself, why it doesn’t is an important piece of the puzzle.
Monstrosity, the mission seems easy enough, the capture of a creature but this creature does not want to go quietly, and it comes down to one man to get the job done.
Best Visual Effects
The nominees for Best Visual Effects are

Erstkontakt
Farragut 2024
Monstrosity
The Cassandra Effect
The award for Best Visual Effects goes to Erstkontakt.
Erstkontakt is a very slick production and it does have some of the best visual effects going around and that effort does match what you see on screen and what you hear when it comes to acting and sound quality, you can have the best looks but if the acting, sound quality and story don’t go with it, it isn’t really special.
Farragut 2024 had great visuals, and those visuals could be considered to be quite similar to Erstkontakt when it comes to quality, but it is felt that Erstkontakt had that extra bit more quality to successfully pull off such a fan film.
Monstrosity was interesting because it is filmed differently than the others, it is not as crisp as the others, but the way it is made makes it interesting to watch, and the ship monitors and the creature are done well, it was enjoyable to look at.
The Cassandra Effect is nicely made, the visuals are fantastic, they really had taken great care in their work, if it was a longer fan film, they may have given Erstkontakt and Farragut 2024 a run for their money.
Best Costumes
The nominees for Best Costumes are

ERSTKONTAKT
Farragut 2024
Übergänge
Monstrosity
The award for Best Costumes goes to Farragut 2024, while not picking Farragut Forward for this category in the past was considered controversial in some circles, the costumes used in Farragut 2024 are considered to be the finest out of the four nominations.
Each fan film offers something unique in the costume department, from the Kelvin era uniform used by Erstkontakt to the First Contact era one used in Monstrosity, it is good that fan films like to spread their wings when it comes to eras.
Best Hero Ship
The nominees for ‘Best Hero Ship’ are

USS Tristan in ‘Encounter‘
USS Loreley in ‘Erstkontakt’
USS Cassandra in ‘The Cassandra Effect’
IKS Qab’elth in ‘Treachery and Honour‘
The award for Best Hero Ship goes to USS Tristan in ‘Encounter’, the Tristan is a beautifully designed ship that really looked good on screen, it is also not a commonly used starship which gave points in its favor though the choice of the ship was a tough one as the Loreley is appealing, the Cassandra is a standard classic and the use of the IKS Qab’elth as a hero ship was pleasing as it is not a Starfleet vessel as most fan films go for plus it is a beautiful design.
Best Antagonist(s)
The nominees for Best Antongist(s) are

Artemis Reigns – Farragut 2024
The Romulans – The Plain Sight
Vampire – Defiant Chapter 9
The Creature – Monstrosity
The award for Best Antagonist(s) goes to The Romulans in ‘The Plain Sight’.
The Romulans in ‘The Plain Sight’ were the perfect antagonists, you had the Deep Scout on board the Caliborn trying to worm his way into gaining trust and eventually the gaining the controls of the ship with his ship nearby ready to give the fatal blow.
Artemis Reigns was an interesting antagonist in Farragut 2024; he went through troublemaker to ally to a guy whose future actions could come back to bite the Farragut and Starfleet sometime in the future.
Defiant really pulled a good one when they used Vampires in Chapter 9, it was completely unexpected when it comes to antagonists and it made the fan film quite memorable.
The Creature in Monstrosity was a tough creature, it taken on multiple phaser hits and was still trying to turn a member or three of Starfleet into its lunch.
Best Trailer

The Final Mission, A Star Trek Fan Production – Trailer 2
Galactica Nightmares Trailer 1
What We Did on Frontier Day: A Star Trek Fan Production – Trailer 1
The winner of the The Final Mission, A Star Trek Fan Production – Trailer 2, the trailer to this fan film has continued to make us curious about the fan film that is coming in the future, we learned more about the fan film but not enough to spoil it.
Galactica Nightmares was a fascinating trailer, we don’t see any Star Trek elements yet but a combination of Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek would get plenty of attention, once again they’ve gone for an animated and live action mix.
What We Did on Frontier Day is a story in the mould of ‘The Last Charge of the Thunderchild’ but the setting is Frontier Day, the day the Changelings and the Borg attempted to take down Starfleet on the Federation’s biggest day of the year.
