Here we are in the last ten days of Autumn, it is actually just now that the weather is behaving that way, just a few days ago, a black snake was seen in the yard, they are usually not around this time of year.
Work is proceeding on The 2026 Trekzone Fan Film Awards, with over 30 fan films to consider and probably more as some are hidden in the pile of AI videos and rants about Kurtzman and Starfleet Academy.
There could be some nice fan film diamonds in the rough that is YouTube but some of the ways a fan film gets named could be making them hard to find.
We know that we have an infamous ban list, but the reality is the banned list is actually quite a lot smaller than people think it is, it is really those who work closely on Axanar and the guy who called Matt a ‘waste of DNA’, you can call us stupid or dumb or an idiot or poor but a ‘waste of DNA’ crosses a line that a person will never get back from, they’re in the Mariana Trench of banned.
So, if you want to be considered and you’re not sure if you are considered for The 2026 Trekzone Fan Film Awards, send a message on FB.
Looking over the site hits that MTM have received recently, there has been an increase in searches about Axanar, the word is that Axanar has been delayed because TPTB have been ‘assholes’ (that’s one way to be less loved by them), in other words agreements have been broken and things have to be straightened out.
Disagreements with TPTB haven’t stopped Axanar before, they released Icarus and Daedalus before though they are quickly buried deep down the internet and few can recall them, on the other hand Axanar Episode IV and Episode V are more valuable than Icarus and Daedalus, no offence to those who worked on them, but they are.
But it will come, it will come to certainly less fanfare than it would it have gotten before we got the big slate of shows (and the one movie) like Discovery, Prodigy, Picard, Lower Decks, Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy plus the Section 31 movie and all but two of those have come and gone.
If Star Trek is off the air for a couple of years are Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy are done, fan films will definitely be rising in terms of interest from fans, will we see a renewed arms race? Probably not because professionals are likely aware that joining a fan film is a very bad idea unless their careers are on the quiet and they are well paid for it but expect bigger running times and improved sets and visual effects to come.
TPTB only seem to be interested in what Axanar is doing and ignoring the rest but again that could be because no productions at the moment are using professionals or are using Star Trek to be a launchpad for their personal studio or are making money from Star Trek although a future sticking point could be if you’re using your sets for tours as that is stepping on James Cawley’s patch of turf as the owner an official set tour.
Now let’s get to some fan films and Potemkin Pictures has released ‘Exfiltrators’ and it is off to a good start at the moment with 178 thumbs up ratings and 1,700+ views on YouTube, this fan film is the first up for consideration for the 2027 TFFA should it take place.
Approaching 1000 views is ‘What We Did on Frontier Day’ a 43-minute fan film that features a host of characters in the fan film world that you know plenty about, you may remember Frontier Day from the events that had occurred in Picard.
Here’s something you don’t see every day, some love for Starfleet Academy, and it is interesting hearing thoughts about the show that isn’t somebody raging about wokeness and it’s not this vision and that vision and whatever gripe people have.
That’s it for this blog entry; it is time to get back to watching the various fan films looking for those moments that stick with us for a long time and be nomination worthy.
Until next time, be good to each other.
