‘CBS Tries to Cancel Axanar!’ is the latest video from Axanar as they encourage people to email the lawyers and tell CBS to ‘back off’.

CBS is not trying to cancel Axanar, that kind of talk is to whip up the Anti-Kurtzman crowd or Anti-CBS or Anti-Corporations or whatever gets a crowd going these days, the kind of crowd that does limited research on a topic and accepts the story without question.

If CBS wanted to cancel Axanar, they likely could have done so several times over in the last couple of years, but they hadn’t done anything.

I don’t think that pestering lawyers is a good idea, that call reminds me of those ‘First Amendment Auditors’ who go to a police station or a post office to ‘audit’ them, they say in the video ‘don’t email this person’ but have the details on the screen though some just go and say to do it.

People may think that Axanar is hard done by getting all the attention from CBS, but the reality is, Axanar signed an agreement with CBS and when you sign an agreement you got to follow it and there are consequences if they aren’t followed.

As mentioned earlier, Axanar seem to pin their hopes on CBS doing the takedown without the 10 days to cure procedure assuming that a breach is the reason, the storm could have been brewing for quite some time before the premiere as Axanar is pretty open about their plans.

If CBS wanted to be really nasty, they could have counted easily a combination of Axanar – The Decommissioning, Interlude, The Icarus Manoeuvre or Daedalus as Axanar’s two parts and they’d be two over their allocated two parts before getting to The Gathering Storm and Crucible though lawyers would need a good paper or digital trail to establish Axanar’s hand in all operations aside from the obvious hosting of those fan films and Alec Peters having starring roles.

It seems that whenever CBS does something, Axanar does something in retaliation, poking the bear so to speak just like the above when ‘The Icarus Manoeuvre’ was pulled from YouTube and then you got the attention attracting headlines like cancelling, they call that rage bait.

It feels like we’re back to the original lawsuit days, ‘CBS vs. Axanar’ but the difference between then and now is that back then Star Trek was off TV as a fresh show for some time and now we got Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy serving needs (or some needs as people regularly point out) and we had Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks and Prodigy before that so people haven’t needed to go Star Trek hunting to get their fix for almost a decade.

Fan Films don’t hold the same viewing value as it did in the lawsuit era, even The Gathering Storm while it had a good start may have struggled to reach 1.7 million views to crack the Top 10 most viewed list.

Axanar’s ‘Beta Site’ wasn’t even safe harbour for The Gathering Storm; it is not available on the beta website; it was just a few days ago though it is online in other places online.

We’ve seen over 100 fan films in the last five years and not one of them has been pulled by CBS and Paramount, that should tell 99.99% of people something, if you stick close to the guidelines and don’t copy productions like Continues, New Voyages, Renegades or Axanar by having anything like big budgets, business goals, merchandise and professionals everywhere, you’re going to be just fine.

In the meantime, get a recliner, this adventure may take a while to get to the finish.
